CHAPTER SIX

Andrew dons his tailored trousers as he gracefully rises from his plush office chair. With a surge of fury, he bellows at Claire, who stands before him, frozen in shock. “What on earth are you doing here?” he demands, his voice dripping with anger.

Claire lifts her tear-filled eyes, her voice trembling with a mix of rage and hurt. “Why did you have to betray me like this? You cheated on me with your secretary. Why?” she seethes, her tears cascading down her cheeks, a testament to her pain. “And the worst part is, you don’t even have the decency to feel remorse or apologize,” she continues, her voice choked with sobs. “You callous man, Chantel did in a day what you couldn’t do for years, and now she has absconded with our children. Yet, you expect me to feel sorry for you? You bring no value to my life at this moment, which is why I sought solace in the company of my secretary, if you must know.” In a fit of rage, Claire strikes him across the face, her tears still streaming down her anguished visage. “I only came here to share the good news that I know where Chantel and the children might be, as I saw them today. But you have shattered my heart.

You promised to stand by my side, no matter what, to never abandon me. So, tell me, why did you make those promises when you knew you would never keep them?” she cries out, her voice laced with fury and despair. “You know what? I am done with this marriage,” she declares, her anger palpable. “Do you honestly believe that I will apologize or feel remorse for what transpired mere minutes ago, or for what you witnessed earlier? I will never apologize to a barren wife like you,” he retorts, his words dripping with disdain. Chantel completed your job, accomplishing what you couldn’t for years, and now she is nowhere to be found. You expect me to be happy, but we can only be good again if you help me find Chantel. I need my children back,” he says angrily. “I was only here to share the good news that I saw Chantel earlier today with the twins. But now, it seems you don’t deserve to know,” she says angrily, leaving Andrew in shock. “What did you just say? Where did you see Chantel? Where is she now?” he asks, already feeling happy at the prospect of Claire finding Chantel. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to speak to a barren wife like me? Then you don’t need to ask me about her whereabouts because I will never tell you,” she says angrily, storming out of his office.

Andrew remains standing, already happy that Claire found Chantel and the kids, considering it good news. “Claire! I will make sure you tell me where Chantel and my kids are. I need to see them,” he says to himself. “But how can I possibly tell Chantel that I want my kids and that I am their father? How will I explain that I had sex with her without her permission, and that Claire came up with the plan?” he asks himself. He believes that Chantel is vulnerable and unable to fight back, so he plans to tell her the truth and take his children because he believes she won’t be able to resist. Just then, his secretary enters his office. “I am so sorry, sir. I didn’t know your wife was going to come. If I had been at my post, I would have known,” she says, looking at Andrew standing in front of her. “There’s nothing to worry about, Sharon. It’s fine. Besides, she is not useful to me,” he says, leaving the secretary wondering why he said that. “Why do you say that, sir?” she asks, and Andrew stands up, smiling. “You will understand soon. You should go back to your post,” he says, and Sharon nods her head before returning to her office. Sharon sits in her office chair, deep in thought, as Andrew shows no remorse for his actions. Claire is already on her way home, reflecting on the painful memory of catching Andrew, her partner, having an affair with his secretary in his car office. She is filled with sadness and continues to cry as she drives. Upon arriving home, Chantel is greeted by the nanny and her twins, Vivian and Vincent. Henry, dressed in a white shirt and trousers, descends the stairs and lovingly kisses Chantel on the lips.

He then engages with the children while the nanny takes them upstairs to their room. “You’re back early today. Didn’t you have work at the office?” Chantel asks, puzzled. Henry approaches her, holding her waist, and places a passionate and romantic kiss on her lips.

Chantel is taken aback and wonders what is happening. “What’s going on, Henry?” she asks, staring at him. Henry returns her gaze with a loving look and remains silent, smiling, as he has a surprise for her. “I can’t help but stare at your beautiful face and the questions you ask. I came back early to spend quality time with you and the kids. Tonight, I’m taking you on a romantic date night because I have a surprise for you,” he reveals. Chantel is overwhelmed with joy, her face lighting up, and she can’t contain her emotions. Tears stream down her face as she embraces Henry tightly, unable to believe that she has found someone like him who loves and cherishes her and her children. “It’s alright, Chantel,” he reassures her, wiping away her tears. “I don’t know how to thank you enough, Henry. I couldn’t hide my emotions, which is why I expressed them to show you how grateful I am.

You accepted not just me, but my children as well, even though they’re not yours, and you’re ready to be their father. I am so grateful,” she says, her voice filled with gratitude as she continues to cry. “You don’t need to thank me. Remember, years ago, before I left for the U.K, we made a promise to each other that no matter what, we would still be together and live our lives.” Chantel, my love, rest assured that I shall forever remain faithfully by your side,” he declares, his captivating gaze fixed upon her. “I am overjoyed to have someone as remarkable as you by my side. Our reunion has brought me immense happiness, for without you, I shudder to think what fate would have befallen me with Claire and Andrew,” she responds, embracing Henry once more. Suddenly, the doorbell rings, and a maid promptly attends to the visitor at the doorstep. Chantel’s curiosity is piqued as the maid presents her with a package. She wonders who could have sent her such a lavish gift, as she unveils an exquisite women’s watch and a resplendent red dress adorned with roses. Her expression reveals her surprise, and she steals a glance at Henry, half-expecting him to be envious. “I cannot recall speaking to anyone recently, so I am unsure who could have sent this to me,” she muses, her gaze fixed upon the extravagant present. “Perhaps it is the mysterious man who fathered your child,” he playfully suggests, causing Chantel’s anger to ignite. “I detest it when you utter such words, as you know they bring me sorrow,” she retorts, though a smile tugs at the corners of her lips. “Why don’t you peruse the letter enclosed within the package?” he suggests, prompting Chantel to nod in agreement. Hastily, she retrieves the letter and reads its contents: “I love you,” it proclaims, written by none other than Henry himself. Her heart swells with affection as she gazes at him, a smile gracing her face before she playfully punches him in the stomach. “Why did you not reveal your identity to me sooner?” she inquires, her eyes still fixed upon the gift. Since Henry’s departure to the United Kingdom, no man had ever bestowed upon her such thoughtful gestures or treated her with such reverence. “Because, my dear, it was meant to be a delightful surprise,” he explains, prompting Chantel to embrace him tightly. “Is this the surprise you were referring to?” she inquired, inhaling the scent of the rose. “No, this is merely an example of the surprise I have in store for you tonight,” he responded.

Chantel smiled and blushed. “Wow, I can’t believe it, but I still appreciate this surprise. Can you please tell me what it’s all about?” she asked, setting the gist aside on the couch and placing her hands on Henry’s neck, while Henry placed his hand on her waist. They gazed at each other, smiling. “If I reveal it now, it won’t be a surprise anymore. I suggest you wait until tonight,” he advised. They then leaned in and shared a passionate kiss, their lips interlocking.
