SURROGATE DECEIT : CHAPTER SEVEN

Claire arrived at the house, visibly upset. She parked her car in the driveway and stepped out, her eyes swollen from crying.

As she entered the house, her mother stood up, concerned. She approached Claire, noticing her tear-stained face. “Claire, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” her mother asked, taking her hands. Despite trying to hide her emotions, tears welled up in Claire’s eyes. The memory of Andrew’s actions haunted her, making it impossible to conceal her feelings.

Her mother continued to inquire about what had happened, prompting Claire to sit on the couch. Her mother called for the maid, Gloria, to bring Claire some water. Gloria hurried to the kitchen and returned with a glass of water, which Claire drank before setting the glass down. “I want to file for a divorce, Mom,” Claire announced. Her mother was taken aback and stood up, raising her voice. “No, you can’t file for a divorce,” her mother exclaimed.

Claire looked up, meeting her mother’s gaze. “Why do you want a divorce now that you’ve found Chantel and the kids?” her mother questioned. Claire stood up from the couch. “You should have asked me first before jumping to conclusions, Mom. You should have inquired about why I want a divorce now that I’ve found Chantel,” Claire retorted, her anger evident. “I know you want a divorce because you discovered that Henry intends to marry Chantel, and you have feelings for him. I won’t allow you to divorce because it would bring shame to our family and tarnish my reputation. You need to forget about Henry and focus on getting the kids back from Chantel,” her mother insisted, leading to Claire raising her voice in frustration.

It always seems to revolve around you, mother. Why don’t you ever consider my feelings? You’re constantly focused on yourself and your own image because you’re a prominent counselor and now venturing into politics. I am your daughter, and you should prioritize my well-being and happiness,” she expresses with frustration. “I caught Andrew red-handed with his secretary in his office engaging in a sexual act,” she reveals, leaving her mother in disbelief at Andrew’s actions. “Are you as shocked as I am, mother? When I walked into his office, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Not only that, he showed no remorse for his actions and even went as far as calling me barren. I initially thought he said that in a moment of frustration this morning because he was upset about Chantel leaving with the pregnancy, but what I witnessed today proved otherwise. Andrew doesn’t love me, and that’s why I have every right to seek a divorce,” she declares, but her mother hesitates due to the potential scandal it could cause given her profession as a counselor and political aspirations. “Despite that, I must respectfully disagree, Claire. Divorcing Andrew is not the solution. I understand you’re hurting, but that doesn’t justify ending your marriage. You both can work through this, and the priority now should be to protect the children from Chantel,” her mother advises, leading Claire to erupt in anger at her mother’s response. Mother, why do you only think of yourself? You expect me to endure a man who not only called me barren but also cheated on me. Absolutely not, mother. I am filing for a divorce and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it.

Chantel’s children are not easily taken away from her because Henry supports her,” Claire declares angrily as she grabs her bag and storms upstairs to her room. Her mother stands there, her mind consumed with thoughts of how to prevent Claire from proceeding with the divorce. Once in her room, Claire retrieves her cellphone from her handbag and calls her lawyer to initiate the divorce proceedings.

She instructs the lawyer to prepare the necessary documents before ending the call. Her sole focus now is on winning Henry for herself and gaining custody of Chantel’s children. “Henry must be mine, and those children must be mine as well. I cannot remain barren forever. I must become a mother, even if nature denies me. I will not let Chantel get away with everything,” Claire mutters to herself, seething with anger and frustration. Meanwhile, Chantel is already dressed in a stunning red high-low dress that Henry gifted her. She adorns herself with expensive jewelry and slips into her elegant black platform heels. Her hair is styled in a sleek under-head ponytail, with her fringe perfectly brushed. She sprays her favorite perfume and gracefully walks out of the room, making her way downstairs.

Henry catches sight of her and gazes at her with adoration, captivated by her beauty. He is dressed in a pristine white shirt and black trousers, waiting for Chantel at the foot of the staircase. He gently takes her hand, planting a tender kiss on it, before assisting her down the stairs. Together, they enter the living room, where the nanny is already attending to the children. “You look absolutely exquisite tonight, my love. Truly a vision of beauty, and your elegance is unmatched,” Henry compliments Chantel, causing her to smile radiantly. She spoke, “You made me appear extravagant, but since you wanted us to have a pleasant time together, perhaps we should allow the nanny to stay with the children at home.” “I never stated that I wanted to spend quality time with just you.

I also mentioned including the children, and besides, I want them to be present when I reveal my surprise to you,” he replied, both of them smiling. “Shall we proceed now?” he asked. “Yes, certainly,” she replied, and the nanny accompanied them.

Andrew arrived in his car, parked, and hurriedly made his way upstairs to his room. He found Claire already dressed in her red nightwear, ready to sleep, but Andrew stopped her. “Where did you find Chantel?” he inquired, and Claire stood there, staring at him, still surprised that Andrew showed no remorse for his actions. “Is that all you have to say to me? Don’t you have any sympathy for what you did today? Don’t you feel guilty about your actions?” he broke my heart, and all you can think to ask about is Chantel. Am I not human? Does my inability to conceive make me less of a person because you believe Chantel did what I couldn’t for years?” she said softly, still feeling hurt. “You haven’t answered my question,” he stated, and Claire yelled at him. “Fine, since I no longer mean anything to you because I found Chantel, then so be it. But you know what? I have already filed for divorce, and there’s no need for you to even attempt to apologize because I am done with this marriage. If you want to know where Chantel is, you should go out on the streets and search for her,” she said angrily, as she went to sit on the bed. “Is that the first thing that comes to mind after everything we’ve been through and years of waiting for children? Now that you’ve finally found Chantel, you can’t even tell me so we can take our children away from her,” he says. Claire’s mother stands on the doorstep, overhearing their conversation.

She believes that this is the only way to prevent Claire from filing for divorce – by revealing Chantel’s whereabouts to Andrew. She enters their room, finding them still arguing, and decides to speak up. “If you want to know where Chantel is, then go look for her at Henry’s house,” Claire’s mother says. Claire becomes angry and tries to stop her mother, but her mother refuses to listen because she doesn’t want Claire to go through with the divorce. “Henry! Who is Henry?” he asks, and Claire is already furious, attempting to restrain her mother.

However, her mother pays no attention because she doesn’t want Claire to file for divorce. “Henry’s father owns the largest oil company in the country,” she explains. Andrew realizes in that moment that Claire’s mother is referring to Henry Williams. “Do you mean Henry Williams?” he asks, and Claire’s mother nods. “But how is that possible? How did she end up with Henry Williams?” he inquires, and Claire is already seething with anger. “You’ll have to act quickly to get the children back because Henry wants to legally adopt them. Once that happens, neither of you will have any rights to the children. So act fast and stop asking questions. Right now, only Chantel has the answers to all your questions,” she says.

Andrew contemplates the situation, realizing that this is a major battle. “I think I need to remain calm because Henry is a powerful person.

Engaging in a battle between the Smith and Williams families won’t make sense. The issue at hand will cause a lot of scandals, especially on my side,” he says. Claire stares at him angrily because she doesn’t want to give up. She has her own plan of taking the children and becoming their mother, with Henry as their father. Andrew expressed his concern, “If the entire world finds out about what Claire and I did to Chantel, it will be catastrophic.” Claire’s mother responded, “I understand, which is why you should tell the truth and fight for your rights. I’m certain that once Henry learns the truth, he will kick you out of the house and take away your kids.” Andrew agreed with her reasoning. “I must leave now,” he said before quickly exiting the room.

Claire lashed out at her mother in frustration. “Why did you barge into our room without knocking, Mom?” she asked angrily. “I apologize, but it was the only way to stop the argument,” her mother explained. Claire continued to express her anger, “Why did you have to reveal Chantel’s whereabouts to him? I didn’t want him to know.” Her mother defended her actions, “It was the only way to prevent you from filing for divorce. I want you to reconsider, Andrew still loves you.” Claire insisted, “You can’t stop me from getting a divorce because I already have. Andrew doesn’t love me anymore, he only cares about his kids. You’re too blind to see that, Mom, because you’re selfish.” She paced around, torn between wanting to be a mother and wanting to be with Henry, who should be the father of her children. “Don’t you want to be a mother?” her mother inquired.

Certainly, mother, I aspire to become a mother myself, but I have reservations about Andrew being the father of my children because I have my own plans,” she declares, leaving her mother curious about her intentions. “You cannot simply dismiss Andrew from his responsibilities. This is your opportunity to embrace motherhood, and if I were in your shoes, I would seize this chance. I am confident that Henry will eventually realize his mistake and return the children to Andrew, and both of you will find happiness once again,” her mother advises. “Mother, my decision is final. Andrew and I are getting a divorce. I suggest you retire to your quarters now, as I am in need of some rest,” she dismisses her mother, opening the door for her to leave. Her mother exits the room, and Claire returns to her seat on the bed. “If it turns out that Henry has expelled Chantel from the house, it would be a momentous occasion for me. However, the news of Andrew taking the children would be quite disheartening, as I long to experience motherhood. Nevertheless, if Chantel remains in the house and Henry decides to adopt the children, it presents a golden opportunity for me to manipulate Henry into removing Chantel from the equation. If Chantel resists and proves to be obstinate, then I will have no choice but to take the necessary steps to eliminate her from my path,” she reveals with a smile. Andrew arrives at Henry’s gate, stepping out of his car. The security guard notices him and attempts to grant him entry, but Andrew declines, inquiring about Henry’s whereabouts. The security guard provides the necessary information, and Andrew returns to his car before driving away.

Henry and Chantel arrived at an expensive private restaurant in California with their kids and the nanny. They wanted to have a good time, so Henry asked the nanny to take care of the children. Henry carried Vivian and Chantel carried Vincent. They called the waiter, Steve, to serve them drinks and food. Henry ordered an expensive wine, fries, potatoes, and French stew. Steve brought them their order, and Henry and Chantel enjoyed their meal. While Chantel was drinking the wine, she felt something heavy and realized it was a ring. She looked at Henry in disbelief. The nanny took Vivian away from Henry, while Vincent stayed with Chantel. Henry got down on one knee and asked Chantel to marry him. Overwhelmed with emotions, Chantel nodded and said yes. Henry put the rings on her finger. Andrew arrived at the venue and saw Chantel and Henry smiling. He noticed the words “Will you marry me?” written on the wall and realized that Henry had already proposed to Chantel. He saw the kids with the nanny and couldn’t hide his happiness. Tears rolled down his face as he had longed to see his children. He saw Henry with the kids and rushed over, declaring that the kids were his. Chantel and Henry stood in shock, staring at him.
